Large Essential Flat Pouch

There's a reason the flat pouch keeps coming back. It's the least amount of bag you can carry and still carry properly: no strap, no handle, nothing to put down or pick up, just a flat rectangle held under the arm or in the hand. It reads deliberate rather than practical, which is why it works over a blazer and jeans as easily as it does with tailoring, and it's the one you take when a briefcase would be too much and pockets aren't enough.

It works two ways: carried on its own, or dropped into a briefcase or backpack to hold everything that would otherwise be loose in the bottom of it. The main compartment takes a 15 inch laptop, a tablet, A4 documents or a book flat, with two internal pockets for the smaller things, and a front compartment sits separately for a wallet, keys, a phone or glasses.

Two zips, and they're the only hardware on it, which is what keeps the front flat enough to slide into another bag. The main zip runs the full width of the top so the pouch opens right out and a document goes in square. The second closes the front pocket and sits under a solid metal bar running the width of the panel, which caps the pocket and holds the shape across the front so it doesn't gape when the main compartment is full.
