Sorry, this style is discontinued and won't be returning. While we introduce each style to stay forever, sometimes it's time to say goodbye so we can avoid overproduction and focus on refining our timeless, core collection.

A good pair of tailored trousers earns its place by going everywhere — with the matching jacket for a full suit, or on their own with a knit or a shirt for smart-casual. Ours are black, cut slim and tapered with a clean line to the ankle, woven in Italy from Supima™ cotton — a long-staple cotton grown in the USA under the Better Cotton Initiative — which gives the cloth a smooth, fine finish with a bit of quiet lustre to it. We sell the trousers and jacket separately, so you can size each to your own fit rather than settle for a set.

They're neatly finished: two slant pockets at the hips, a tapered leg, and a small slit at each hem so they sit clean over a shoe. Pair them with the matching Two Piece Suit Jacket for the full suit, or wear them on their own.

Black tailored trousers are one of the hardest-working things you can own. Wear them with the jacket and a white shirt for the sharp version, or split them off with a fine knit and loafers, or a tee and trainers to dress them down. They take just about anything on top, which makes them the piece you reach for far more than a full suit.

Dry clean, and less often than you'd expect. A tailored jacket carries interfacing, canvassing and shoulder structure that solvents and pressing gradually flatten, so once or twice a season is plenty for most wearers. Between cleans, a soft clothes brush after each wear lifts dust and keeps the surface fresh, and small marks come out with a barely damp cloth blotted rather than rubbed. Rest the garment for a day between wears so the cloth recovers. Hang the jacket on a broad wooden or shaped hanger — never wire, which cuts into the shoulder line — with the buttons undone and room on either side. Trousers want hanging from the hem or the waistband on a clamp hanger, which keeps the crease sharp and lets the leg drop straight. Folding over a bar works too, as long as the fold sits on the existing crease rather than across it. Trousers take the wear in a suit, so they'll need cleaning more often than the jacket — but clean both together when you can, since dry cleaning shifts colour very slightly over time and separating them eventually shows. Steam rather than iron to drop creases. If you do iron, use a low heat with a pressing cloth between the iron and the cloth, and never press directly onto lapels, pockets or the shoulder — those areas are shaped in construction and a hot iron flattens them permanently. Store in a breathable garment bag rather than plastic, and always clean tailoring before putting it away for the season, since marks that look invisible will set over the summer.

How to take your measurements

Using a flexible tape, measure around the fullest part of the bust, keeping the tape close under the arms and flat across the back. Measure your waist at its narrowest point, and your hips around the fullest part. If you fall between two sizes, we recommend sizing up.

We hand measure all items to help you find the right fit. These are the measurements of the garment itself, not body measurements, so the easiest way to use them is to compare them with a similar garment you already own. Lay it flat and take all measurements from the outside.

Our clothing is handmade, so there may be minor variations from piece to piece that won't affect the overall fit.
